Nature Navigator

As we stride into the blooming days of spring, we're thrilled to present a comprehensive overview of the latest developments and enhancements on Navigator. April has been a month of momentum and transformation, where we've continued to push the boundaries of excellence in meeting your evolving needs. Join us on this journey as we delve into the highlights of April and celebrate the strides we've made in elevating your experience.


Effortless Editing:

You can now effortlessly edit your draft topics initiated via the DOI flow.
You will have visibility for the count of valid articles from the DOI list file you upload while creating a topic.

Simplified Navigation:

"My Draft Topics" is now consolidated under the simplified label "My Topics" for clearer navigation. Within this section, you can find both draft and published topics clearly differentiated, ensuring better organization and ease of access.

Delete a Topic:

With this new functionality, you're in the driver's seat of your content. Whether you're tidying up your workspace or simply refining your focus, deleting topics is now just a click away. No need to wait for assistance. Streamline your workflow and keep your Nature Navigator library effortlessly organized.

Take control, delete with confidence! Under the 'My Topics' all topics whether in drafts or published can now be deleted by you with a simple click. Every topic tile has a 'Delete topic' option (visible when you hover over the topic tile).

Library Refresh:

All existing topics in the library have been refreshed with comprehensive topic descriptions.

๐Ÿž Other Bug Fixes:

  • Expert Networks Zoom In/Out: Zoom functionality glitch resolved for smoother navigation.

  • Limit Warnings: No more limit warning messages during organization topic limit checks, ensuring a seamless user experience.

  • Dropdown Organization List Fixed: Dropdown list in the "My Institute Topics" tab no longer overlaps with topic cards.

  • Topic Anatomy: We removed the non-functional buttons on the topic anatomy (lower left circles of each anatomy entry)

Nature Navigator

As we bid farewell to March, we're thrilled to share a roundup of all the incredible enhancements and updates we've made to Navigator over the past month.

From fine-tuning features to introducing brand-new functionalities, we've been hard at work to ensure that your experience with Navigator continues to soar to new heights.

๐Ÿ”ง Expert Networks Loading Fixed:

You can now bid goodbye to the bug that was causing some networks not to load. All expert networks will now load perfectly! All thanks to our new architecture with improved handling of graph data.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Topic Metadata Issue Rectified:

We've addressed the issue with topic metadata, ensuring that details like academic age, h-index, citations count, etc., are now accurately reflected with the latest updates.

๐Ÿซ Institution Ranking Data:

Institution ranking data is now available for all topics, whether you're creating a new topic or have an existing one. Dive deeper into insights with this valuable addition.

๐Ÿ”Semantic Search on All Publications (Beta version live):

You can now retrieve more focused reading lists through the semantic search in the All Publications tab. Just a friendly reminder that this is still in Beta mode and we're all ears for your feedback! Let's make this journey together even more awesome with your insights!

As you continue to create new topics in Navigator you'll now notice this journey has been uplifted with new designs, promising you a refined experience

  • Column Chart in Introduction tab improved; Other visualisations in progress.

  • Changes made to styling of the synonym chips in the topic creator to clearly depict different states like selected, deselected and hover.

Say hello to our dynamic, engaging live homepage! We've launched our homepage to introduce you and your colleagues to Navigator, to share what Navigator aims to do and what are the benefits. This can help spread the word if you intend to share Navigator with your colleagues.

๐Ÿซ Institution Ranking Data

Want to compare and contrast different organizations based on publication output effortlessly?

Our new benchmarking topics feature lets you do just that. Benchmarking topics compares different organizations mentioned on the documents included in the topic. It helps to identify those organizations leading in a certain sub-topic. Whether you're exploring trends in technology or delving into academic research, the Benchmarking topics tab empowers you to benchmark topics gaining valuable insights at a glance.

๐Ÿ”ง Expert Networks Loading Fixed

All expert networks will now load seamlessly without any issues. Bid farewell to the bug that was previously causing certain networks to not load. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we strive to enhance your experience.

๐ŸŒ— Dark and Light Themes

We understand that everyone has their preferences when it comes to visual aesthetics. That's why we're excited to introduce options to view the Navigator in both dark and light themes! Whether you prefer a sleek, dark interface or a crisp, light one, you can now enjoy Navigator in a style that suits your taste.

Smaller improvements

Last but not least, the topics within "My Drafted Topics" are now sorted alphabetically

Streamlined Affiliation and Access to Nature Navigator

We've made it easy for you to connect your account to your organization so that

  • You can use Nature Navigator even outside of your organizations network. Simply log in to Navigator once at work to start the process ๐Ÿค

  • You can find topics specific to your Institution under "My Institute Topics"

  • You can find "Public Topics" showcasing Springer Nature-created topics accessible to you

Improved Generation of Topic Anatomies for Your New Topics ๐Ÿ’ซ

In the past, most topics had a 1st layer of classical fields of research in their anatomy, which caused confusing and miss-leading categorization. With the newest release we use full AI-powered clustering now on the first level of the topic anatomy.

Enhanced Security to Access Your Account in Nature Navigator

We've enabled SSO connection with Nature Navigator so that you can login to Nature Navigator via your organization's SSO (in case that is activated for you). ๐Ÿ”’

Feedback Driven Explorer Refinements

We've improved the default logic for the "All Publications" tab on each topic to showcase articles by relevance from high to low.

New Features Launched ๐Ÿ’ฅ

  • Create your own Topic in Nature Navigator using the Content Selection Wizard

    • Users can select content sets to create new topics in Nature Navigator

  • Better page structure of Explorer

    • We are restructuring all topic pages to better guide users to the concrete information they need.

  • Automatic soft-updates!

    • Yes you're right, Navigator topics will automatically integrate new articles that belong to a topic on a monthly basis in the beginning with potential update in frequency later.

  • Dedicated tab for All Publicationsย 

    • You are already able to access key publications for each sub-topic. After this update, we will move the publication lists into their own tab and provide you with all publications in a sub-topic.

  • Improved date logic

    • Every now and then, you might have seen publications with odd publication dates. Especially in timeline charts, those can become quite evident. Usually this is caused by conflicting publication dates in the raw data. We have improved our data logics to match an even larger number of articles to a more realistic publication date.

  • Viewing Option on Expert Finder

    • Toggle between Card view and a List view to view your selected experts

  • Use search to find researcher by name sneak peek ๐Ÿ”Ž ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

    • Type the researcher name directly to select

  • Enhanced Preview Mode ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿง

    • The preview mode to now include information on experts and all publications before publishing!

โœจ Important Changes now Live โœจ

  • User account based access

    • In this first step users will just need to create an account to use Navigator

    • Subsequently, we will add features to those accounts see below:

      • Off-site access:ย Based on your user account and affiliation to your organization we will be able to grant you access to all your topics even when you are outside of your usual network.

      • Better interaction with topic creators:ย With more users creating topics on Nature Navigator there is a need to be able to contact and communicate with you about your nextย topic. User accounts will in future be the basis for that.

      • Personalized features: User accounts will provide you with more personalized features on our platform, e.g. saving something to a personal list.

On the Roadmap๐Ÿ“

  • Search function - users can lookup Institutions from the topic data

  • View Individual publications of a researcher on his/ her profile

  • Better differentiate sub-topics in the topic anatomy by their size

  • Automatically add summary text to explain each sub-topic

  • Display volume of publications for a sub-topic

Nature Navigator

We are thrilled to share some exciting news regarding our product roadmap, as we continue to innovate and improve our offerings to meet your evolving needs.

Over the past months, our team has been listening to your valuable feedback and analyzing industry trends. As a result, we are updating our Expert Finder which is currently in the Beta phase. This is designed to enhance your user experience and maximize productivity.ย 

We understand that finding specific information quickly is crucial. With the new Expert Finder Tab in place we are developing a view that will enable you to find collaboration opportunities with ease and with a much comprehensive view.ย The old expert finder will remain in place for all topics at the moment.


Here is a sneak peek into how this is going to look.ย We will reach out with further updates and instructions as soon as this is Live in the next week or so.

  • The new Navigation pane will have a dedicated tab for the Expert Finder

The Researcher details will be available in a card view. With filters at the sub-topic level and for the country and institution to help with navigation.ย ย
